I’ve had the project of making longer tape loops on the backburner for a while now. I was stuck, confined to thinking I needed to figure out how to spool the loop within the cassette’s shell. I tried numerous times with longer pieces of tape and never came close to making it work. The best I did was a short loop which I made following Amulet’s instructional video.
I’m late to the party, but obviously you don’t need to keep the tape in the shell. Just think of it as a reel to reel machine. A trip to my hardware store and I was the proud owner of a hobby saw for cutting into the shell and not hacking the plastic to jagged pieces.
It’s like a weight is lifted off my shoulders. I’m only confined to the amount of space I have to run the loop. It’s not the most stable set up but from an experimental take it’s exactly what I’ve been working towards for that extra bit of texture to these recordings. We’ll see where this leads me.
